Product Description

OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate is specifically designed to support horses with high electrolyte requirements. The composition includes a balanced mixture of electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, chloride, magnesium, and calcium, complemented by dextrose, which helps facilitate the transport of these minerals into the muscle cells. Horses should always have access to plenty of fresh water, as increased electrolyte intake may raise their water requirements.

OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate is particularly suitable for sport horses and horses that sweat heavily during intense work, as well as for horses that perform at high levels during the competition season. Additionally, it is also suitable for horses that need to stabilise their electrolyte balance due to ongoing digestive issues. The product can thus be ideal for supporting recovery in cases of significant sweat loss and specific stress factors, making it suitable for both leisure and performance horses, depending on their needs. Especially in foals with digestive disorders, it is recommended to consult a veterinarian or a qualified therapist before administration to clarify individual tolerance and dosage.

Electrolyte Concentrate does not replace mineral feed, but rather complements the mineral supply! To support the balance of minerals and trace elements, we generally recommend regularly offering the horse an appropriate, high-quality mineral feed such as OKAPI Pasturemineral Balance. In general, OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate can be well combined with other products, but due to the higher levels of trace elements and vitamins, it should only make up up to 1% of the daily ration. This should be taken into account when creating the total ration.

Feeding recommendations

It is generally recommended to administer the Electrolyte Concentrate after strenuous training sessions or competitions to replenish the loss of electrolytes. After intense competitions, a feeding duration of at least three weeks is advisable to replenish the electrolyte reserves. For sport horses, regular administration throughout the entire competition season can be beneficial.

OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate can be mixed directly into the feed or dissolved in water and then given to the horse. It is important to ensure that the horse always has access to sufficient fresh water to support hydration.

How do I calculate the correct dosage for my horse?

To calculate the appropriate amount of OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate for your horse, follow these steps:

1. Determine your horse’s weight:
The horse’s weight can be measured using a scale, weight tape, or apps like the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal, available for free on Google Play and Apple Store).

2. Use the feeding recommendation as your starting point:
The general recommendation for OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate is based on a 600 kg horse. Horses receive 5-10 measuring scoops (1 scoop = 19g ) per day for 1-3 days. Ponies and small horses should receive half this amount for 1-3 days, depending on their size. Foals should receive 5-10 scoops per day for 1-7 days.

3. Adjust the amount to your horse’s weight:
For example, for a horse weighing 300 kg:
190 g ÷ 600 kg × 300 kg = 95 g per day

This calculation can be used to determine the appropriate amount for horses of different weights.

Due to the higher content of vitamins and trace elements compared to complete feeds, this product should only be fed to horses at a maximum of 1% of their daily ration.

Complementary feed for horses

OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate is suitable for compensating for electrolyte losses in the event of excessive sweating and for stabilising the electrolyte balance in the event of severe or prolonged intestinal disorders with electrolyte loss. We recommend consulting a vet prior to administering OKAPI Electrolyte Concentrate, especially to foals with intestinal disorders. Water should always be freely accessible in sufficient quantity and quality.

This complementary feed may only be fed to horses and ponies up to 1% of the daily ration per animal and day due to the increased content of vitamins and trace elements in relation to the basic daily feed intake.
