What is OKAPI Fellwechsel Support?
OKAPI Fellwechsel Support is a complementary feed for horses designed to provide targeted support during shedding. Its carefully developed formula complements the daily ration in this particular phase and is well suited to times when the body is under increased demand.
During shedding, it can be beneficial to support the daily ration with a targeted nutritional addition for a limited period. OKAPI Fellwechsel Support has been developed to accompany horses through this phase with a well-matched supplement and can easily be integrated into the daily ration.
Is Fellwechsel Support suitable for my horse?
OKAPI Fellwechsel Support is suitable for horses that are going through the shedding period and may benefit from targeted support as part of their daily ration during this time.
This applies in particular to:
- Horses during spring and autumn shedding, when the body is adapting to a changing coat.
- Horses whose ration may benefit from temporary support during shedding.
- Native breeds, ponies and older horses, where shedding is often a more demanding period.
- Horses that are to receive a well-matched addition to the daily ration during shedding.
In addition, OKAPI Fellwechsel Support can also be used for ponies, with the amount adjusted according to body weight and individual need.

Yes, OKAPI Fellwechsel Support can easily be combined with other OKAPI products to complement the daily ration during shedding.
Feeding recommendations
How long should I feed OKAPI Fellwechsel Support?
OKAPI Fellwechsel Support is suitable for short-term use during shedding. Depending on the horse and the season, it can be fed for several weeks while the horse is shedding.
In many cases, it makes sense to start feeding at the beginning of the shedding period and continue throughout the whole phase of coat change. If needed, feeding can be resumed again during the next shedding period.
How is OKAPI Fellwechsel Support fed?
Horses receive 1–2 scoops daily (1 scoop = 15 g). Ponies receive approximately half this amount, depending on size.
OKAPI Fellwechsel Support can simply be mixed into a handful of soaked hay cobs, mixed into bucket feed, or stirred into soaked feed.
As some horses may find the taste unfamiliar at first, it is recommended to start with a smaller amount and increase this gradually until the recommended daily amount is reached.
Due to the higher zinc content compared with complete feeds, this complementary feed must not exceed 1.25% of the horse’s daily ration.
How do I calculate the right dosage for my horse?
To calculate the correct dosage of OKAPI Fellwechsel Support, the following steps can be followed:
Determine the horse’s weight:
The horse’s weight can be determined by weighing, measuring with a weight tape, or by using apps such as the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal, available for free on Google Play and Apple Store).
Follow the feeding recommendation:
The general recommendation for OKAPI products is based on a horse weighing 600 kg. The recommended daily amount is 1–2 scoops per day (1 scoop = 15 g).
Adjust the dosage:
If the horse weighs 300 kg, for example, the dosage should be adjusted accordingly. With a recommendation of 2 scoops per day, the calculation is as follows:
daily dose (30 g) / 600 kg × horse’s weight (300 kg) = 15 g per day.
This calculation method makes it easy to determine the appropriate amount for the individual horse.
- 900 g is sufficient for approx. 1 – 2 months
- 1,4 kg is sufficient for approx. 1,5 – 3 months
