ColoProtect forte is designed for horses with a sensitive digestive system that are prone to issues such as diarrhoea or loose stools. It includes herbs such as fennel, which have been traditionally used in folk medicine to soothe the digestive system, for example, in the classic “aniseed-caraway-fennel tea” that is also commonly consumed by people when digestion is off track. Additionally, ColoProtect forte contains components that support the immune system in modulating inflammation and may help aid the regeneration of the intestinal mucosa.

ColoProtect forte was developed for horses with a sensitive digestive system that are prone to issues such as loose stools or diarrhoea. It can also be administered to horses that are frequently exposed to stress from travelling, competitions, or other stressful situations. In the case of existing digestive problems, it is advisable to plan the feeding in consultation with a qualified therapist or veterinarian.

OKAPI ColoProtect forte can generally be well combined with other feed additives and supplements, but it should be fed with a minimum of two hours’ separation from mineral-based feeds to avoid the binding of minerals by bentonite. It offers supportive effects, particularly for horses with sensitive digestion that react to stress or changes in diet.

It is recommended to combine ColoProtect forte with an equine-appropriate feeding plan to promote the natural gut environment. For optimal results, ColoProtect forte can be used alongside other products such as OKAPI Bitter Herbs or OKAPI Licquorice Extract. These products can work synergistically to support the overall digestive health of the horse.

How do I calculate the correct dosage for my horse?

To calculate the appropriate amount of OKAPI ColoProtect forte for your horse, follow these steps:

1. Determine your horse’s weight:
Your horse’s weight can be determined using scales, a weight tape or an app such as the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal, available for free on Google Play and Apple Store).

2. Use the feeding recommendation as your starting point:
The general feeding recommendation for OKAPI ColoProtect forte is based on a 600 kg horse. For acute needs, feed 3–5 scoops three times daily (1 scoop = 13 g). Once improved, a maintenance dose of 2–3 scoops 1–2 times daily is typically sufficient. For horses with chronic digestive issues, long-term daily feeding at a suitable (or reduced) dosage is recommended. Adjust amounts accordingly for ponies.

3. Adjust the dosage:
For example, for a horse weighing 300 kg:
195 g ÷ 600 kg × 300 kg = 97,5 g split into three daily feeds

This calculation can be used to determine the appropriate amount for horses of different weights.
Due to the higher levels of technological additives, this feed should not exceed 1% of the daily ration for horses.

Complementary feed for horses

OKAPI ColoProtect forte supports the large intestine during feed change, it also lends great support to horses that suffer from faecal water syndrome or similar stresses in the hindgut. Please note, that an Equine appropriate diet and daily management are essential for a healthy digestive system. In the event of severe digestive disorders, a vet should be consulted.

Due to increased levels of technological additives, this feed may only be fed to horses up to 1% of the daily ration.
