The simple way to provide minerals by hand
1,000g sufficient for approximately 2.5–5 weeks
2,000g sufficient for approximately 2–3 months
OKAPI Mineral Bricks are a palatable biscuit made from the OKAPI Pasturemineral Balancer base. They are particularly suitable for horses living in open stables or on pasture, providing a practical way to feed minerals by hand without the risk of being jostled while using a feed bucket.
The Mineral Bricks are ideal for horses that may not readily accept the granulated OKAPI Pasturemineral Balancer, as the included herbal mixture improves their taste. However, they should only be fed in the recommended dosage and not made freely available to ensure proper mineral intake. This convenient feeding method supports targeted mineral supplementation and promotes the well-being of horses.

OKAPI Mineral Bricks can generally be easily combined with other feedstuffs. It’s important to keep an eye on the overall composition of the ration to ensure that your horse’s nutritional needs are met optimally.
When providing mineral supplements for horses, it’s important to ensure that mineral feeds and single mineral supplements, such as Zinc Plus or Sulphur Plus, are not given in the same meal. Many minerals are regulated in the body in relation to each other and taking them together can interfere with how they are metabolised. For example, additional zinc may not be absorbed optimally if copper from the mineral feed is present at the same time. Ideally, one supplement should be fed in the morning and the other in the evening. If this isn’t possible for practical reasons, there should be at least a two-hour gap between the two feedings. Similarly, OKAPI Prodic should be given separately from mineral feeds because it can bind minerals in the gut, leading to their elimination in the manure and a reduction in nutrient absorption.
The feeding of OKAPI Mineral Bricks should be managed thoughtfully, as their palatable herbal mixture makes freely offering by choice unsuitable. We recommend offering the Mineral Bricks daily for a period of 4 to 6 weeks, followed by a 2 to 3-week break. Alternatively, they can be given every second or third day, particularly if you are not able to visit the stable daily. This intermittent feeding approach helps maintain and support the horse’s ability to regulate its own mineral stores, ensuring that your horse consumes the necessary minerals in appropriate amounts.
The OKAPI Mineral Bricks should be fed in the recommended dosage to ensure a balanced mineral intake. They can be given directly by hand, offering a convenient way to provide minerals, especially for horses in open stables or pasture systems.
To calculate the appropriate dosage for OKAPI Mineral Bricks, follow these steps:
Determine your horse’s weight:
The horse’s weight can be measured using a scale, a weight tape, or apps like the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal, available for free on Google Play and the Apple Store.
Follow the feeding recommendation for OKAPI Mineral Bricks:
The general recommendation for OKAPI Mineral Bricks is based on a 600 kg horse. The suggested daily amount is 2 to 4 bricks per day.
Adjust the dosage:
If your horse weighs 300 kg, the dosage should be adjusted accordingly. The calculation would be as follows:
4 Bricks/600 kg×300 kg= 2 Bricks per day.
This calculation method allows you to determine the appropriate number of OKAPI Mineral Bricks for horses of different weights.
