OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus is a specially formulated blend of lecithin and diatomaceous earth, optimised for the needs of horses. Lecithin, a phospholipid, is efficiently absorbed in the small intestine and plays a role in metabolism, particularly in the formation of cell membranes.

Diatomaceous earth, also known as Kieselgur, is a natural product primarily made from the shells of fossilised diatoms and contains silicon dioxide (SiO2). This blend of lecithin and diatomaceous earth can support horses in various stressful situations.

OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus is especially suitable for sport horses, such as those in show jumping, eventing, or driving disciplines. It can also be beneficial during periods of high physical exertion.

Horses in recovery phases after injuries or overexertion can also benefit from OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus. Feeding recommendations

OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus can generally be fed without concern over a long period. However, it is recommended to administer all supplements for a limited period and then observe the horse’s response. A healthy metabolism should be sufficiently supported by an equine-appropriate diet consisting of 24/7 hay, mineral feed, a salt lick, and water, allowing the horse to regenerate and regain balance.

OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus can be mixed directly into the feed or given over dampened hay.

How do I calculate the correct dosage for my horse?

To calculate the appropriate amount of OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus for your horse, follow these steps:

1. Determine your horse’s weight:
The horse’s weight can be measured using a scale, weight tape, or apps like the BCI App from our partner Sanoanimal, available for free on Google Play and Apple Store).

2. Use the feeding recommendation as your starting point:
The general recommendation for OKAPI Diatomaceous Earth Plus is based on a 600 kg horse. Horses can receive 2-3 measuring scoops (1 scoop = 10g) per day; ponies should receive about half this amount, depending on size.

3. Adjust the amount to your horse’s weight:
For example, for a horse weighing 300 kg:
30 g ÷ 600 kg × 300 kg = 15 g per day

This calculation can be used to determine the appropriate amount for horses of different weights.
